Why a Facebook Page Is Required
A Facebook Page is only required on one of the two ways into LinktoDM, and it buys you something. Here is what it is for, and when you can skip it.
The Page holds the permissions
Section titled “The Page holds the permissions”On the Facebook login path, the permissions LinktoDM needs are not granted by an Instagram account. They are granted through the Facebook Page itself.
That Page is the object Meta attaches messaging and comment access to, and Page admins are the people allowed to grant it. This is why the connection asks you to be an admin of the Page: without that role there is nobody Meta will accept the grant from.
Because the Page carries the permissions, it is also enough on its own.
A Page by itself is enough
Section titled “A Page by itself is enough”You do not need an Instagram account to use this path. Connect a Page you administer and LinktoDM automates the Page:
- Messenger DMs
- Comment-to-DM on your Facebook posts
That is a complete setup. Nothing has to be linked to Instagram for those automations to run.
Linking Instagram adds the Instagram features
Section titled “Linking Instagram adds the Instagram features”Link an Instagram professional account to the same Page and the Page’s permissions extend to it, which is what unlocks:
- Comment-to-DM automation on Instagram
- Story replies
- Click tracking
- Analytics
An Instagram account with no linked Page cannot use this path — there is no Page to carry the permissions. That is the one thing the Page is genuinely required for.
When you do not need one
Section titled “When you do not need one”Instagram login connects with your Instagram credentials alone. No Page, no Facebook account, no admin role — a good fit for creators and small brands who want automations running today and do not have a Page set up.
You keep the core of the product. Some of the features listed above depend on the Page-based permissions, so if click tracking or analytics matter to you, the Facebook path is the one to take. The full comparison is in Connect your Facebook account.
Choosing between them
Section titled “Choosing between them”- Only automate a Facebook Page — use Facebook login; Instagram is optional.
- No Page today, want to start now — use Instagram login.
- Page already set up, want everything — use Facebook login with your Instagram account linked to the Page.
- Not sure — start with Instagram login. Connecting through Facebook later is a reconnection, not a rebuild.
