Verify the Switch from ManyChat to LinktoDM

ManyChat is gone and LinktoDM is connected. This is where you confirm the switch actually landed, because a removal that looked successful in one place is routinely still live in another, and the only symptom is a DM that never sends.

Five checks. The first three are lists that should now show LinktoDM and nothing else; the last two are settings that decide whether it can act.

1. Facebook: Business integrations

Settings & privacy → Settings → Your activity → Business integrations.

The Active tab should count 1 and list only ours — LinktoDM or Salesmorph, both are us. ManyChat should have moved to the Removed tab; seeing it there is the positive confirmation, not just its absence from Active.

2. Facebook Page: Connected Apps

Switch into your Page profile, then Settings & privacy → Settings → Page setup → Advanced messaging.

Under Connected Apps, LinktoDM should be there with its App ID. Manychat-IG should not — and if it is, go back and strip its control.

3. Instagram: Apps and websites

Settings and activity → App website permissions → Apps and websites, on the Active tab. On desktop it’s at instagram.com/accounts/manage_access.

Ours should be the only entry — listed as Salesmorph-IG or LinktoDM — with Manychat-IG gone from Active. The Expired and Removed tabs beside it are where old connections land, and anything sitting there is harmless.

One leftover is enough

Instagram hands messaging to a single app. An entry still sitting on any of the three lists keeps ManyChat as the thread owner, and your LinktoDM automation will post the public reply and then fail on the DM with no visible error. Don’t move on until all three lists are clear.

4. LinktoDM’s Page permissions

Back on the Page’s Connected Apps — Settings & privacy → Settings → Page setup → Advanced messaging — click Edit next to LinktoDM. This is the dialog you used to switch ManyChat’s control off, read the other way round.

All four toggles should be on: Access standby channel and Take control of conversations, once under Messenger permissions and again under Instagram permissions.

With Take control of conversations off, everything else on this page can be correct and your DMs still won’t send.

5. LinktoDM is the default routing app

Still under Page setup, open Instagram conversation routing (and Messenger conversation routing if you automate your Facebook Page too). Under Default routing app, click the ··· menu, choose Edit, pick LinktoDM from the App dropdown, and Save.

Routing paths below it can stay empty — No routing paths is the normal state, and those are for directing specific messaging links or ad campaigns to different apps.

Then send one test message

Lists and settings prove the connection; only a real message proves the chain. This is a throwaway smoke test, not the real testing — that comes after you’ve rebuilt your automations.

Publish a one-line post automation on any live post: one keyword, one short DM, nothing else. Comment that keyword from a second Instagram account — not the connected one, since Instagram won’t DM you your own comment — and confirm both halves arrive: the public reply under your comment and the DM. Then delete the test automation.

A public reply arriving with no DM behind it is the classic signature of a leftover connection — go back to list 2 and check the Page’s Connected Apps again. The LinktoDM console should also show the account in the switcher with no amber warning banner; a banner there means something still holds it, which Another app is controlling your conversations covers.

Old conversations may lag

A few threads that ManyChat already owned can stay assigned to it even after a clean removal. Ask that person to send you a new message and Meta reassigns the thread to LinktoDM automatically. New conversations are unaffected.

You should now have

All three lists showing LinktoDM and nothing else, its Page permissions on, LinktoDM set as the default routing app, and one test comment that came back with both a public reply and a DM. The switch is done; the rest is your automations.
