How to Fix Instagram Automation Not Working

If your Instagram automations are set up but nothing is firing, it’s almost always a missing Instagram permission. Before removing anything, it’s worth looking at what Instagram actually granted — a single switch is often the whole problem, and turning it back on is quicker than a full reconnection.

Do this in a desktop browser, on the same screen as your LinktoDM console.

Step 1: Open Apps and websites

Log in to instagram.com as the account you connected, then open Apps and Websites.

Stay on the Active tab and find our app. It appears as LinktoDM or as Salesmorph — both are ours.

Step 2: Check what’s actually granted

Click View and edit. This is the screen worth reading before you change anything: it lists each permission separately, and an automation that fires for nothing usually has one of them switched off.

All four on, as they should be. One off is enough to break part of the product.

Which switch matters depends on what’s broken:

Access your business message information	Every DM — comment-to-DM, chat automations, follow-ups
Access your business comment information	Comment triggers, so nothing fires at all
Publish content as a business	Public comment replies
Access your basic business information	Cannot be switched off; it’s marked Required

Switch on anything that’s off, click Save, and re-run a test automation. If that fixes it, you’re done — there’s no need to reconnect.

Step 3: Remove the connection

Only if everything was already on and automations still don’t fire. Back on the Active tab, click Remove and confirm. The entry moves to the Removed tab.

On the phone instead

The same screens are under Settings and activity → App website permissions → Apps and websites, then View and edit.

Step 4: Reconnect with full access

Do this straight after the removal, in the same browser session.

1. Log out of your LinktoDM account.
2. Log back in and reconnect Instagram (do not use email login; use Facebook/Instagram OAuth).
3. When Meta prompts for permissions, make sure all permissions are checked before continuing. One unchecked box puts you straight back at Step 2, with a connection that looks healthy and an automation that doesn’t fire.

After reconnecting

Comment your trigger word on a post with an active automation, from a second account, and confirm both the public reply and the DM arrive. If they still don’t, check whether another app is controlling your conversations or contact LinktoDM support with a screenshot of your View and edit screen.
