Limit Public Replies on an Instagram Automation

Public comment replies are the replies your automation leaves under the post, and they carry their own per-post limit — limit to 100 per post by default. On a post that suddenly does numbers, that ceiling is what keeps your comment section from filling with automated replies.

Before you begin

• An Instagram account connected to LinkToDM
• An existing post, reel or story automation

Set the limit

1. Open Automations in the console and open the automation you want to change.
2. Find the Public comment reply row, under Post and Trigger.
3. The toggle on the right turns public replies on and off. The dropdown beside it sets the cap — limit to 100 per post is the default.
4. Pick the limit you want, then click Publish.

What number to pick

The 100 per post default covers a normal post comfortably. Raise it once you have watched an automation run cleanly, and raise it gradually rather than in one jump.

A brand new account going from zero to several thousand replies in an afternoon is the pattern platforms treat as spam, and the cost of that is your account, not the automation. The same caution applies to DM volume — 100 to 200 a day is the place to start.

Pair it with your trigger

The limit and the trigger solve different halves of the same problem. The trigger decides who gets a reply, the limit decides how many. On a giveaway with an Any Word trigger, the limit is the only thing standing between you and every comment on the post.

Public replies and DMs are separate

Turning the Public comment reply toggle off stops the visible replies under your post. The DM still goes out — that is set up further down the editor, under Setup direct message.

That split is useful: a giveaway can send everyone a DM without leaving a hundred identical comments on the post itself.

When an automation hits its limit

It stops leaving public replies on that post. The automation stays published and everything else about it is unchanged — raise the limit and it resumes.

If replies stopped and you did not expect it, this limit is the first thing to check, before anything in Automation not working.

You should now have

An automation that answers your commenters and stops at a number you chose, rather than running unbounded on a post that takes off overnight.
